Raw prints, from 1976

On view in the gallery through January are John Baldessari’s Raw prints from 1976. These are early editions and were made at Cirrus Editions in Los Angeles. The Raw prints follow two other seminal editions by the artist: I Will Not Make Any More Boring Art (1971) and the 1975 photo collage 5 Pickles (with fingerprints) in the Shape of a Hand. The Raw prints are an early combination of lithography and photography. The photos were taken by Baldessari at the Santa Monica Mall. He then selected one line and one color shape from each photo to mirror on a larger sheet. There are six prints in the series, in an edition of 50.
